Combating elder abuse

WorkCover WA is supporting the Department of Communities in raising awareness about the prevalence of elder abuse in Western Australia.

Elder abuse is a community-wide issue that can have a long and lasting impact on older people, and affects up to 75,000 Western Australians.*

The majority of cases reported in WA involve financial and psychological elder abuse, with family members found to be the most common perpetrators.* It can also include physical, social, sexual or physical abuse, or neglect.

The State Government has been proactive in addressing the issue of elder abuse, having convened the State’s first Elder Abuse Summit in June 2018.

If you or a family member is suffering elder abuse, call the Elder Abuse Helpline on 1300 724 679 or visit the Advocare website for more information at https://www.advocare.org.au/
