Employer Compliance Operations – Goldfields Esperance Region

From 11 to 15 September 2017, WorkCover WA inspectors visited the Goldfields Esperance region to undertake compliance checks.

Compliance checks of 124 businesses found four employers without a workers’ compensation policy in place. They now face penalties of up to $5,000 per worker employed while not insured.

Relying on others to make insurance arrangements and mistaking Public Liability insurance for workers’ compensation insurance are two of the most common reasons why employers find themselves without the cover they thought they had. Employers are reminded to obtain and make available for future inspections an insurer issued Certificate of Currency as proof that the mandatory insurance is in place.

Most employers do the right thing and hold the necessary insurance. Watch WorkCover WA’s educational video Workers’ compensation insurance: a guide for employers for details of an employer’s workers’ compensation obligations and when to obtain a policy as well as who to cover.
