Employer Compliance Operations – Karratha Region

From 29 August to 1 September 2017, WorkCover WA inspectors visited the Karratha region to undertake compliance checks.

Compliance checks of 87 businesses found 14 employers without a workers’ compensation policy in place. They now face penalties of up to $5,000 per worker employed while not insured.

Relying on others to make insurance arrangements and mistaking Public Liability insurance for workers’ compensation insurance are two of the most common reasons why employers find themselves without the cover they thought they had. Employers are reminded to obtain and make available for future inspections an insurer issued Certificate of Currency as proof that the mandatory insurance is in place.

Most employers do the right thing and hold the necessary insurance. For a list of approved insurers or for any other help with meeting your workers’ compensation responsibilities, please call WorkCover WA’s Advice and Assistance Line on 1300 794 744 or click here.
