PTSD and cancer presumptions for firefighters – effective 6 May 2023

Amendments to the Regulations have established a rebuttable presumption of work-related injury for post-traumatic stress disorder contracted by firefighters.

Amendments to the Regulations have also added two cancers (primary site melanoma and malignant mesothelioma, each with a qualifying period of 15 years) to the list of specified cancers suffered by firefighters which are presumptively recognised.

The amendment regulations implement recent commitments made by the WA Government and come into effect on 6 May 2023.

Visit the recent legislative amendments page for a fact sheet about the amendment regulations and a link to the Review of Firefighter Presumptive Cancer Legislation Report.
