WorkCover WA hosts its biggest Conference yet!

On Friday 13 October 2023, we proudly hosted the biggest, boldest, and most successful WorkCover WA  Conference ever, bringing together 650 delegates from across the workers’ compensation and injury management scheme. The event was officially opened by The Hon. Bill Johnston MLA, Minister for Industrial Relations, and proceedings were meticulously guided by our engaging host, General Manager Regulatory Services, Rebecca Harris.

Supported by QBE, Dr. Catriona Wallace delivered a captivating presentation, sharing insights into Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Metaverse. Her expertise and thought leadership left our audience inspired and eager to learn more about the role AI will play in our day to day lives, as well as the opportunities and challenges it presents.

The Women in the Industry session resonated with our commitment to diverse leadership and inclusive cultures. Accomplished leaders in our field Geniere Aplin (EML Solutions), Julie Mitchell (Allianz) Katherine Gobbi (Mercer Marsh Benefits) and Dianne Phelan (BJS Insurance Group) explored the pressing issues surrounding inclusion and the cultivation of diverse perspectives within our industry.

Our dynamic international guest speaker, Kimberly George, shared global industry trends and insights on delivering innovative claims management solutions.

A noteworthy moment was the introduction of the Insurance Brokers Principles and Standards of Practice, marked by an engaging conversation with the National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA).

During the event, WorkCover WA CEO, Chris White, highlighted the agency’s contribution to the Western Australian scheme. He noted that while our scheme in Western Australia has been stable and effective for many years, we must adapt and evolve to ensure our success going forward. With our unwavering commitment to moving “Forward. Together.” he provided an insightful update on the state of the scheme and upcoming legislative reforms and outlined WorkCover WA’s strategic priorities for the coming years.

Our final keynote speaker, Kurt Fearnley AO, delivered a powerful presentation which was a fitting conclusion to our fantastic program. He emphasised the importance of triumphing over adversity and the significance of embedding an opportunity mindset.

In addition to the sessions described above, our delegates had the privilege of hearing engaging panel discussions exploring contemporary issues within the workers’ compensation and injury management landscape.

Throughout the day, our marketplace provided a platform for delegates to engage in discussions with colleagues and service providers in our industry.

A big thank you to our sponsors, guest speakers, panel members, delegates and everyone who helped make this conference a resounding success. We look forward to continuing our Forward. Together.  journey into 2024 and beyond.
